Introducing Lyra Collection: Gemstones of Cosmic Beauty

We’re very excited to introduce the Lyra Collection that showcases the beauty of natural gemstones wrapped in elegant diamond threads set in 18K white and rose gold. Inspired by cosmic beauty and blooming with colorful tourmalines, morganites, rubellites and opals, Lyra makes a bold statement of opulence featuring earrings, cocktail rings and pendants.

“The colors and mystery of the cosmos are reflected in the gemstones we find in the depths of our planet,” said Yael Designs’ CEO Yehouda Saketkhou. “That is why we named this new collection after Lyra, a small constellation featuring one of the sky’s brightest stars.”

Many of the pieces in Lyra are set with custom-made narrow threads of diamonds that overlay the gemstones in the center, a difficult and unique technological feat that took Yael Designs years to perfect.

To help select the best pieces for this collection, the jewelry designers worked closely with the brand’s fans to garner feedback and perfect the pieces.

“This is an exciting time to be in design because social media allows us to interact directly with our fans and learn their opinions before the pieces are even cast,” said Yael Designs marketing director Stefan Patashvili. “Having received great feedback from our fans, it is no surprise the Lyra Collection is enjoying such great attention from our retailer customers.”

Although making its first full appearance at 2012 JCK Las Vegas, the Lyra Collection has already received rave reviews for the singular beauty of its designs from retailers, fashion editors and celebrities alike.

Iceskating champion Kristi Yamaguchi wore the blue zircon cocktail ring and fire opal earrings from Lyra Collection.

Actress Kerry Washington wore a fire opal cocktail ring to Essence magazine’s 2012 Black Women in Hollywood Luncheon.

Two fire opal rings from the collection have already garnered the prestigious 2012 AGTA Spectrum and 2012 JCK Jewelers’ Choice awards.

The price for Lyra Collection starts at $4,200.

For the last three years, Yael Designs has been supporting the work of The Junior League of San Francisco, which has devoted millions of dollars and volunteer hours to improving the Bay Area since its founding in 1911.

The Junior League of San Francisco held its 86^th Annual Fashion Show Fundraiser on April 13^th, 2012 to celebrate the hard work of the women who have created a strong and enduring positive force for their community. In commemoration of the loyal service of the JLSF volunteers, Yael Designs donated a topaz necklace to this year’s Silent Auction event.

“At last year’s centennial celebration, the stunning diamond necklace from Yael Designs was extremely well received at our Silent Auction and instrumental in helping us achieve our fundraising goals,” said JLSF’s Caitlin Fisher.

Top Jewelry and Fashion Picks at 2012 Academy Awards

We could not tear our eyes away from the 84^th Annual Academy Awards Sunday night. With The Artist taking home the award for best picture, the glamour and style of old Hollywood was in the air. Big cuffs, elegant necklaces, bold colors and flowing feminine gowns were trending on the red carpet and we hope this high glamour trend lasts a long time.

Sparkling Cuffs

Continuing the trend from the Golden Globes, Gwyneth Paltrow, Penelope Ann Miller and Viola Davis all chose to accessorize their dresses with thick, glittering cuffs that had our jaws on the floor. The 69th Golden Globes’ red carpet attire had our jaws on the floor with all the gorgeous dresses and jewelry adorned on all our favorite celebs. With George Clooney and Meryl Streep scoring Best Actor and Actress in a Drama, not to mention all of our gaga-ing all over everyone’s outfits, our Sunday evening entertainment couldn’t have been better.

Green earrings were definitely a hit this year! Julianna Margulies wore gorgeous jade earrings by Lorraine Schwartz. Julianne Moore punctuated her black dress with bright Fred Leighton emeralds. Emily Deschanel complimented her blue sapphire dress with these brilliant shade of green earrings. Debrah Messing’s purple and emerald earrings brought a major punch of color to her outfit.

How to Choose Your Wedding Band

Choosing a wedding band is not easy because you have to consider style, significance (you’ll be wearing this forever, after all!), how it will work with your engagement ring as well as if and how it will match the ring of your spouse.

As many couples around the world got engaged over the holidays, here are some tips on choosing a wedding band from our chief designer Yehouda Saketkhou:

What’s a good tip for a bride choosing a band to fit her engagement ring?

Don’t pick a band that overpowers the engagement ring – it looks best when the rings are close in thickness. Because metals like platinum and white gold wear off differently, it’s important to keep the primary metal of the band the same as the engagement ring.

The band should have what’s called “comfort fit” or at least be rounded on the inside since you want for 2 rings to sit comfortably on your finger. It’s best if the band does not have diamonds all around because it cannot be resized – so if you’re ever going to get pregnant and gain a little weight, you may have to leave the ring at home.

How do you pick something if you want a mismatched, but coordinated look?
If you pick something that has the same setting method as your engagement ring, whether it’s channel setting or micropave, you can play around with the rest - perhaps have a band with neutral or pastel stones that complement the vibrant stones in your engagement ring.

Do you have to match your rings to your husband’s? Do most people?
There is no rule that says your bands should match, so don’t do it unless you both really want to. It’s ok if you have different expressions of style or different needs - I know of an electrical engineer who got a non-metal band because of work safety (metals conduct electricity), while his wife ordered a 18k white gold band.

At Yael, we often put the spouse’s birthstones inside the shank of the band, which is a great hidden way to personalize your jewelry.

What’s a question you hear a lot from brides concerning wedding bands?
The main questions brides ask is if they should get a band with diamonds and if the diamonds should be all the way around and if the ring should align with the setting. They also ask if they should solder the two rings together and I always recommend that they do not so that they have the freedom to wear them separately in case, for example, they’re traveling.

Anything else with buying bands you think a lot of brides don’t realize?
Remember, you will be wearing this ring every day, so durability and comfort are extremely important. While diamonds are said to last forever, that doesn’t mean they can’t fall out – so if you’re getting a band with diamonds, check the setting workmanship to make sure you don’t end up with a missing tooth scenario down the road.

December babies, celebrate with youngest birthstone, Tanzanite!

December babies, you sure know how to make your entrance! With Tanzanite as your stone, how could you not? Your birthstone is the newest and one of the most rare gems in the world! It can only be found in Tanzania in a small region between Mt. Kilimanjaro and Olduvai Gorge.
